UbiSlate 7-India’s $55 Tablet Pre-Orders Opens After the Aakash goes on Sale


India’s Government Sponsored $45 ultra-low cost tablet computer aimed at providing connectivity to the country’s masses.

The tablet, called Aakash (meaning Sky)was announced in October this year Previously nicknamed as Sakshat.The susbsidised Aakash tablet is likely to cost Rs. 1,750.And sold out less than one week after the device went on sale in the country online.While many will be disappointed by the lack of availability of the tablet there is a Positive News that DataWind, the Canada-based firm manufacturing the tablet,However is offering the commercial version of the Aakash tablet.

As a spokesperson of DataWind told The Hindu Business Line:

 We have closed bookings for Aakash and opened online pre-bookings for the second generation Aakash tablet.
 

            The new tablet is called the UbiSlate 7 and it is set to begin shipping next month for $55 (2,999 INR). Measuring 7 inches, the device packs more punch that the first generation version which will apparently be “three times better” than the original Aakash in performance. The tablet will also come with a 3,200 mAh battery, which is expected to give a back up to 5 hours. It comes with a headphone/mic plus integrated speaker.
